7 Keys to Victory in Social Media Marketing
The fact is,
there are 4 billion internet users of which 3.1 billion are active on social media, and counting!
Here are seven tips
to help you stay ahead of the game!
1. Be a great storyteller
No one wants to engage with brands that simply promote themselves all the time. While it is important for posts to contain calls-to-action, doing so all the time will be a big turn off for your audience. Instead, tell great stories to engage your audience. This will get them much more interested in what you have to say, and since you are saying it under the banner of your brand, you will have more success driving brand engagement. You also won’t find yourself fighting with the algorithms of social media platforms that tend to demote promotionally-based posts.
2. Be original
We tend to see a lot of the same things on social media these days. Try to be unique as possible so your content stands out from everything else instead of being same old, same old.
3. Be authentic
Whether you are your own brand or it’s a company, the rule of authenticity is paramount above all. You have to be yourself. Doing so sets expectations for when your audience engages with you, and most importantly, when they do business with you. Your brand promise should be yours and yours alone and be reflective of who you or your company really are and what you stand for. This needs to come through in everything you do, including the social media experience you are offering.
4. Tactical Tagging
Be sure to tag others as often as possible, as this is a tried, tested and true method to gaining more exposure for your posts. It’s a great way to tap into other audiences. You can use influencer marketing tools like Buzzsumo if you are unsure of who to tag and want to find the best influencers and most appropriate hashtags for your posted content.
5. Engage with Video
Incorporating video into your social media content as much as possible is a sure-fire way to increase reach and engagement. Whether it’s Facebook Lives, a robust Youtube channel, getting in early on IGTV, or posting Instagram stories, video is great because it is so much more interpersonal than written word, and many social platform algorithms favor video content over other forms of media.
6. Leave no influencer unturned!
Don’t constrain yourself by reaching out only to influencers with a huge following. A micro-influencer can be even more effective. Connect with them as well to get your content shared, as they often have much more intimate, cozy community than the giants. Make sure they have good engagement though. That’s the key ingredient!
7. Dedicate yourself to growing your followers
Growing your followers properly takes a lot of time and effort. It means putting out content very frequently, finding others to follow, identifying and connecting with the right influencers, and proactively engaging with those who you want have follow you. It requires a good deal of research into your demographics, hashtag research and keeping up to date on relevant events to tap into your core audience. If you do not have time to do all of this, hire someone internally or outsource this to a reputable consultant or agency. Do not, and I repeat DO NOT buy followers. Ever! They offer nothing for you other than a high number that gets displayed in your profile. But robots do not engage. It might look good on the surface, but as soon as someone scratches just beneath it, the reek of fake followers will be a massive turn off to potential followers, customers and influencers you may want to work with in the future.
Social media is always changing. It feels like every couple of months there is something new catching fire that instantly becomes a must-do for your business. No matter how much changes, these principles will help guide you through, and if applied properly, can help you succeed now and in the unforeseeable future!
